Snoring Aids to Open Nasal Passages

If you or someone you know has chronic snoring problems, you have probably searched for snoring aids that work. Understanding what causes snoring may help you in your quest for snoring aids.

Basically, snoring occurs when airways are constricted to the point that air rushes by the uvula and other tissue at the throat. These folds of skin vibrate and that sound is what we commonly refer to as a snore. Finding snoring aids that can help eliminate the noise sometimes becomes more than a simple want - it can actually become a need as both the snorer and everyone in the house loses significant sleep due to the noise.

One fairly recent option in the area of snoring aids to the hit market are breathing strips, sometimes called nasal strips. These work on a very simple principle and are effective for some people who snore.

The idea of these snoring aids is to simply hold the nasal passages more widely open to allow more air to flow. Remember that constriction is the most common cause of snoring and if your snores are caused simply by nasal constriction, these strips will likely be effective snoring aids for you.

The strips typically resemble narrow band-aids. They have a thin piece of metal and the underside is adhesive. The person opens these snoring aids just like he or she would a band-aid, and it sticks on the nose, just like a bandage. But that is where the similarity ends. Instead of holding a cut together, the metal strip lifts the nasal passages, creating a wider space and allowing for greater airflow. As already stated, the idea is simple but for many people, these are very effective snoring aids. Because this is not a medicine to take or a spray for your nasal passages, there's really no side effects to this snoring aid other than the potential for a sore nose after the strip has been worn. If that is a problem, it becomes a personal decision whether the snoring or the sore nose is the lesser of the two evils.

A major source for snoring aids is Breathe Right. You can find this company's website at http://breatheright.com. The site is filled with information about snoring and even includes a "snoring IQ" quiz. Another manufacturers is Nose Works located online at www.noseworks.com/view.asp.
